Take a wildlife watching boat trip
As well as renting out Atlantic Bay Cottage we also operate Sealife Adventures which runs boat trips to see the local wild life and the infamous Corryvreckan Whirlpool. We are lucky to have resident golden and sea eagles, otters, seals, porpoises and many seabirds. Groups of bottlenose dolphins regularly pass in front of the house and are seen from our boat and minke whales are summer visitors.

Play Golf
Balvicar boasts a challenging and often spectacular nine hole course, bring your own clubs. For more variety there is an 18 hole course in Oban.
Walking
There are many lovely walks around the island and further afield, we have guides in the house which describe the walks and the degrees of difficulty. The little conservation village of Ellenabeich is only a mile from Atlantic Bay Cottage and has a pub and restaurant, a gift shop and a museum revealing the history of the slate quarries on the islands. There is a Scottish Wild Life Trust reserve on Seil famous for otters, roe deer and very rare Marsh Fritirary butterfly.

Take the passenger ferry to Easdale and walk around the island. Have lunch in the puffer bar and visit the museum. There is also a ferry to the larger island of Luing which can be explored by car,bike or on foot.
Eating Out
There are two pubs on Seil both offering home cooked food and local seafood including Langoustine, rope grown mussels and hand dived scallops. The pub and restaurant in Ellanabeich is only a fifteen minute walk from Atlantic Bay Cottage. The Tigh and Truish Inn famous as being the spot where islanders would change from their kilts into trousers when kilts were banned after the Jacobite rebellion is situated next to the Bridge over the Atlantic.
Further afield
There are many outings that can be done in a day from Seil including visiting the island of Iona known as the Cradle of Christianity because St Columba founded a monastery there and set out his monks to spread the word of Christianity around Britain and Europe. The Island where St Columba is believed to have spent his time when he was not on Iona can be seen from Atlantic Bay Cottage.
Mid Argyll is also very famous for Ancient and Celtic History as the Kingdom of Dalriada and there is an excellent museum at Kilmartin with many standing stones and other artefacts.
The Sealife Centre north of Oban has wonderful displays of sealife and is a rescue centre for seals.
All around you in Argyll are spectacular views and wherever you go from Glencoe inland to the western seaboard you will find fantastic spots to walk, climb, cycle or just sit back and enjoy a picnic or a pub.
